THERAPIES AVAILABLEIndian Head MassageOriginating from the 4000 year old Ayurvedic system of health, Indian head massage is a refreshing opportunity to unwind, and release stress and tension. Massage forms an intrinsic part of the Ayurvedic tradition of health maintenance and the belief that health results from harmony within one's self. Many of the moves used in the massage will have been passed down through family traditions over the centuries. When receiving the treatment clients remain seated and clothed in a low backed chair. The therapist works lightly to ease tension around the shoulders and neck progressing up to the head which is the main focus of the treatment. The therapy ends with some gentle moves working on energy points around the face and finishes with some energy centre balancing around the upper body. Indian head massage is a lighter form of massage usually carried out without the use of any lotions or creams. However, if requested, the therapeutic effect of the treatment can be enhanced by using the Ayurvedic oils that it is traditionally performed with. These special oils, usually infused with herbs, are chosen to suit each person's disposition and are applied to the scalp as part of the massage routine. We don't suggest the use of oils if you need to return to work or have further engagements afterwards. The strength of Indian Head massage is in the deep relaxation it produces. The massage movements encourage lymphatic drainage which helps to drain away toxins, thus improving skin clarity. By releasing tension in the muscles around the skull, tension headaches are eased and by stimulating the circulation to the head and face clients will notice an improvement to hair and skin texture. The final part of the massage looks at balancing your natural energy known as Prana. The practitioner aims to improve, distribute and regulate any over active or under active parts of this energy to ensure all parts of your body are being nourished energetically. You may notice the practitioner working around the upper energy centres in order to leave you feeling better centred. Whilst Indian head massage does work across the shoulders we would recommend a heavier form of massage if you are hoping to really target muscles in this area such as acupressure chair massage, sports, remedial or Swedish massage. We do recommend this treatment as a great way to relieve stress, the repetitive trance like moves induce deep relaxation which leaves you feeling particularly refreshed. This is a great treatment for those who have been studying particularly hard or those whose lifestyle has been particularly busy and strenuous. »Back |
