Saturday 10th June 2006 proved to be a most enjoyable day’s work. The glorious weather and opportunity to work in the open air was wonderful. The Acupressure massage treatments proved a crowd puller bringing an animated element and hands on experience to Active 4 Life’s stall.
Active 4 life is a healthy living project based in North West Leeds. Part of their work involves working with the community to help establish and identify their own needs for further health related information. In response they aim to provide the appropriate feedback and offer experiential solutions directly to the community in situations relevant to them.
A constant stream of people got the chance to discover the benefits of massage courtesy of Active 4 Life. The Acupressure massage was a new experience for many and received positive feedback throughout the day. The drop in nature of the massage sessions worked particularly well and gave Active 4 Life members additional opportunities to converse with those who were waiting or on-looking.
One of the most notable moments of the day was the interest generated amongst the children who were desperately keen to have a go, some even lent a hand when their carer was on the massage chair. What became apparent was the great sense of community in this area often labelled as "deprived." Little London in fact harbours a richness of people whose wealth may not necessarily lie in their bank balances but rather is to be found in their knowledge, experiences, diversity and ability to pull together and work as a community. This highly successful event was as enjoyable for those working as attending.
The day was organised by Community Action Little London and Servias, a resident led group aiming to highlight the needs of the community and who it must be said did a fantastic job staging the event.
